SUSHI CRUISE - EDGEWATER, NJ

(LOGO PROVIDED VIA GOOGLE)

I visited Sushi Cruise in Edgewater, NJ for the first and current only time on February 13, 2018 while meeting up with my Uncle Anthony and his girlfriend Wendy for dinner. He had told me about Sushi Cruise a few times and had wanted to share the experience with me and my wife. We finally found a time to go. It was after a long day at work and the wife had been feeling under the weather, so I met up with them on my own. I hated that the wife missed out, but I was happy that I was able to go. First because I always love to see my Uncle Anthony as I really do enjoy our conversations. Second, I enjoyed the restaurant.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

(PHOTO OF THE DINING ROOM PROVIDED VIA GOOGLE)

I entered Sushi Cruise around 8pm and not during the day like pictured above. Sadly I could not get a good photo that night, none were anywhere near good enough quality at night. I was impressed with the layout and vibe of the place though. It has an open floor plan with a great riverside view. It looks just as good at night as it does during the day. To say the least, I was very happy upon arrival.

THE FOOD

We started with the seaweed salad. I love a good seaweed salad to start off my meal at any Japanese restaurant. It just had a fresh taste and it's light enough to instantly leave wanting for more. Nice tough here. Also, my uncle usually hates seaweed salad, but enjoyed this one.

Next, we shared a medley of sushi rolls that I can describe as well prepared and fresh, which is exactly what you want when eating raw fish. We enjoyed the Rainbow Roll which is a California roll topped with tuna, salmon, white fish, avocado and massago. It was very tasty. We also enjoyed the Godzilla roll which was a deep fried tempura roll filled with crab meat, salmon, scallop, eel and avocado topped with an eel sauce. This was my favorite roll. This plate also featured the Edgewater roll which had crabmeat mixed mayo sauce topped with tuna, salmon, red snapper, yellowtail, shrimp, eel and massago. I am not going to go into detail about the other rolls so that I don't sound repetitive. But I would like to try to highlight the roll you see in the center of the photo above, the one with the jalapeno on it with messago. Unfortunately the name of it escapes me at this time, but it was on the special menu and had the right amount of kick to it. I recommend to try it if you see anything on their specials menu that sounds like that. I do look to update this post when I can get the name of it and a good description. Just delicious.

SERVICE

Service was great at Sushi Cruise. Our server was both very involved in our experience and at the same time not there at all. Let me explain this. We wanted for nothing. He knew when the right times were to speak to us and not seem like he was interrupting and took cues greatly. He picked up on how my uncle mentioned that he loved ginger. The server always had a refill of ginger at the table for my uncle each time he finished it. Just a great job.

DRINK OF THE NIGHT

Sushi Cruise is a BYOB which of course means that they do not serve alcohol. My uncle always seems to know what to bring to properly compliment our meal. On that night, we enjoyed Aromo 2016. Even though this Chilian Carmenere is usually recommended to be paired with beef, pasta, lamb and poultry, it was quite fantastic with our sushi that evening.

LASTING IMPRESSIONS

Sushi Cruise was a great experience. Was it because of the company that I was in or was it the restaurant itself. I would say both. I love spending time with my family. Sushi Cruise made it easy to not worry about the meal and truly enjoy my time. The server was attentive. The food was amazing. I happily give Sushi Cruise a 4 out of 5 stars. I can't wait to go back.
