SCHELLENGER'S RESTAURANT - WILDWOOD, NJ

Yes I know this review took a long time but sometimes life just happens and there is no helping it. With that said, I would like to take us back to our first day in Wildwood back in June. We had a great lunch earlier in the day at Mudhen’s (read our 200th review) and ended up having a not so enjoyable early dinner at The Dragon House. You haven’t seen that review yet due to the experience there being rough for me since this was my family’s yearly eatery growing up.

Since our first attempt at dinner our first day was worse then expected and we really did not eat, we decided to take a shot at a second dinner to try to salvage the remainder of day one. My wife Sharon saw Schellenger’s from a distance while we walked to the Dragon House earlier and she was curious about the restaurant because it looked fun for the kids. I remembered that I had gone there many years ago but unfortunately did not remember how I felt about it.

THE DECOR

As you can see from the photo above, the decor of the exterior of the restaurant is extremely busy. Personally I am a huge fan of this type of over the top decor and can’t get enough of it. Having a boat, lighthouse, fish market, and especially the giant lobster in the front adds a special appeal for me. Keep it coming!

The decor on the inside of the restaurant continues the theme established from the outside. The attention detail is something that needs to be respected because I know that it is certainly not cheap to keep the paintings and furniture in such good condition. Again I am a sucker for nautical themes and I found myself in heaven here.

THE SERVICE

Our server was fantastic from the moment we sat down at our table. He was friendly to my children and very attentive. He noticed that I looked at what the table next to us was eating and picked up that I may want to eat that myself. My wife did not want to have a big meal and he helped suggest other options for her. Great job on service here.

THE FOOD

I mentioned how our server noticed me checking out what the couple in the table next to us were eating. It just looked too good not to order. I ordered the Lobster Feast. The dish included a whole lobster with shrimp, scallops, calamari, clams, mussels and fish served over linguine with a white wine, butter and garlic sauce. All I have to say is WOW. I don’t typically like using the term wow as a descriptor for how I enjoy my meal but it’s the only word that I could think of. The seafood was cooked perfectly and the sauce was delightful to the point that I asked for extra bread to make sure that I could finish the sauce as well. I also mentioned in the beginning of this review that I did not remember my previous experience here. That all changed once I took my first bite of this dish. My memories began to flood back into my mind from my childhood.

LASTING IMPRESSIONS

This was a big trip for me since it was the first time that I had brought my family. Wildwood will continue to be a staple yearly trip for my family and I just as it was for me growing up. I was over joyed that they all enjoyed their time just as I did and I was overjoyed that we all were able to save our first night after the experience that we had earlier in the day. Thank you Shellenger’s. We will see you next year. I fully recommend Shellenger’s for your dining enjoyment and I know that you will enjoy it as much as we did. Enjoy!
