DOMANI RISTORANTE ITALIANO

Domani is a family favorite in our area. Located in Hillsdale, it has grown quite a good reputation in the community and neighboring towns. They have gone through a few name changes over the years. It was originally known as Domani. They were an up and coming Italian restaurant in the beginning that wanted to secure it's spot in our hearts. They then chose to join the restaurant chain Bensi to be their new identity. While under the Bensi banner, they seemed to grow a larger following but longed for the days when they had complete control over their creativity. Eventually, they decided that being part of the Bensi chain was not enough for them and they felt the need to truly be there for their guests. They became Domani once again.

THE FOOD:

Last night, my family and I journeyed to the next town over and sat down for a wonderful meal. We started with the Fried Calamari. The Calamari was cooked perfect and was pleasantly tender. The dipping sauces are what made it though. Our server provided us three sauces. The sweet marinara, spicy marinara and buffalo sauce (I like buffalo calamari) all complimented the Calamari perfectly. Domani does a nice job with sauces.

After the calamar, I was served a cup of chicken noodle soup. I have to say, Domani has an amazing broth. I can see myself making a meal out of the soup the next time that I go in.

The Seafood over Capellini would have gotten a 10 out of 10 if they did a little better on presentation. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious. Clams, shrimp and sea scallops in a light red sauce does not begin to address how good the flavor of the dish is. I really enjoyed eating the it. But it looked like the dish was thrown on the plate with no presentation in mind. Sauce was splattered on the rims of the plate and it took away from how good the dish looked. Wipe the rim before the plate leaves the kitchen. Other then that, it was a very well executed dish. I found myself last night around 11pm eating the leftovers. I find myself craving it as I type about the dish.

SERVICE:

Our server did a fantastic job waiting on our table last night. I never found myself looking for her. I never needed to flag her down. She showed up at the table just at the right times. She was never annoying or overwhelming. She had her timing and food knowledge down. Service was flawless.

LASTING IMPRESSIONS: I give Domani a solid 4 out of 5 stars. They offered a great experience that my family and I will remember. My wife and daughter enjoyed their food as well and we all brought home left overs. We will definitely be back.

Domani is located at 387 Washington Ave, Hillsdale, NJ 07642. They are open from Sunday to Thursday from 11am-11pm and Friday and Saturday from 11am-12am.
